Varieties – Flower Thrower

May 1968 was a turbulent month. In Paris, students set up barricades and fought street battles with the police. Bruno Barbey, on the road in Paris as a photographer for the Magnum agency, takes a famous photo on the Boulevard Saint Germain, which later becomes the source of inspiration for the „Flower Thrower“, probably the best known work of the street artist BANKSY.
In BANKSY’s work, a stone-throwing student becomes a masked man throwing a bouquet of flowers. It is one of Banksy’s most recognisable images and one that has been widely appropriated. Over the years, both my Berlin friend and I have come across several variations of this work of art.
